Nota de Prensa de SUM, Soccer United Marketing. CIUDAD DE MÉXICO - La Federación Mexicana de Fútbol, junto con Soccer United Marketing, anunciaron este día, los Grupos, Calendario y Sedes del Torneo InterLiga 2008. La conferencia de prensa realizada en el Auditorio de la Femexfut, estuvo presidida por El Lic. Decio de María Serrano, Secretario General de la Federación Mexicana de Futbol y por Nelson Rodríguez, Vicepresidente de Soccer United Marketing. Y en ella se dieron detalles de la quinta edición del torneo eliminatorio de clubes mexicanos que determinará dos boletos a la Copa Libertadores 2008.
La InterLiga 2007 se jugará del 2 al 12 de enero en Houston y Dallas, en Texas, así como el área de la bahía y Los Ángeles, California. Para determinar a los ocho equipos mexicanos que clasificaron a la edición 2008 del Torneo InterLiga se basó en el récord combinado del Campeonato 2006-2007, es decir de los Torneos Apertura 2006 y Clausura 2007 de la Primera División Profesional.
Los ocho clubes clasificados son: Grupo A - América, Atlas, Toluca, Morelia. Grupo B - Cruz Azul, Pumas, Monterrey, San Luis. En el caso de que uno de los participantes de InterLiga se corone campeón del Torneo de Apertura 2007 (actual), ese club será reemplazado por Atlante, debido a que el campeón del Apertura 2007 deberá participar en la Copa de Campeones de CONCACAF 2008. InterLiga 2008 determinará dos plazas mexicanas para la Copa Libertadores conocidas como "México 2" y "México 3". La otra plaza, "México 1" ha sido determinada según los Reglamentos de la Federación Mexicana de Fútbol. Debido al compromiso de Pachuca a la Copa de Campeones de CONCACAF 2008 por ser campeón del Torneo Clausura 2007, Guadalajara, Campeón del Apertura 2006, ha sido seleccionado como "México 1". La quinta edición del Torneo InterLiga 2008 iniciará el miércoles 2 de enero en Frisco, Texas, con actividad del Grupo B. Con los encuentros Pumas vs. Monterrey y Cruz Azul vs. San Luis, iniciando a las 19:00 hrs. locales. Un día después, el jueves 3 de enero en el área de la bahía, en sede por determinar, Toluca se medirá on el Atlas de Guadalajara. Mientras que Monarcas se enfrentará con el América, en doble jornada que comenzará a las 18:30 hrs. locales. El Grupo B, volverá a tener participación el sábado 5 de enero, cuando se enfrenten Cruz Azul vs. Monterrey y más tarde San Luis vs. Pumas. El domingo 6 de enero, la actividad se desarrollará en el Pizza Hut Park de Frisco, Texas cuando se encuentren América vs. Toluca y Atlas vs. Monarcas. El Grupo B finalizará el martes 8 de enero, con los encuentros Monterrey vs. San Luis y Pumas vs. Cruz Azul, en partidos a celebrarse en el área de la bahía. La primera fase culminará cuando el 9 de enero, el Grupo A cierre participación con los encuentros Toluca vs. Monarcas y Atlas vs. América. El Robertson Stadium fue renovado y actualizado en el 2004, gracias a una donación procedente de la Fundación John y Julie O'Quinn. Además de los 20 palcos de lujo que fueron añadidos en el verano de 1998, la "Fase I" de la renovación reemplazó la pista de atletismo con una nueva gradería aumentando así el aforo del estadio hasta los 32,000 espectadores.
